Do the developers of the outlet malls realize Americans love to eat? Outlet Mall progress Simpsonville KY

24316503_BG1Will the outlet mall in Simpsonville  Kentucky offer anything more then the common outlet mall across the country?  Every family road trip I have taken across the eastern United States we have passed or stopped at outlet malls looking for a break from the minvan or a bathroom break for my children.  It eventually becomes an hour or so of wandering through shops of major retailers looking at the same old thing at the same old retail prices.  I have rarely encountered lower prices than traditional mall stores with the exception of occasional pair of children’s shoes or winter coats for sale in the spring.

Every trip has also included a walk back to the minivan and a short trip to another location for lunch.   Do the developers realize Americans love to eat? I like to eat.  I don’t like fast food such as we have an overabundance in Shelby County, I like to sit down for hot food that was actually cooked recently.  I know most restaurants have packaged food and too much sodium or MSG but I’m taking the good with the bad.

A Qdoba, Moe’s, Applebees, Chili’s, Firefresh BBQ, Mom and Pop Sandwich shop or Deli would be a welcome sight in Simpsonville.  Anything without a Drive thru and for everyone’s health NO SMOKING in the facility.  Something the local Pizza joint should do to increase their business.

hopefully Something will be offered to keep shoppers on their property, once they venture off in the direction of the Wendy’s truck stop they may not come back. LISTEN UP horizon Group!!

An update from WDRB:

By next August, the Outlett Shoppes at Louisville, located in Simpsonville, is expected to be a destination for many shoppers.

You can see progress being made on the new 80-store outlet mall, located off Interstate 64 at exit 28 in Simpsonville.

In a matter of six months, it has gone from the site being cleared to stores now taking shape.

“I’m here two to three times a day every day. I love seeing things get built and it’s amazing how quickly it’s gone up,” says David Eaton, Simpsonville’s City Administrator.

Simpsonville City Administrator, David Eaton, says he is eager to see what the outlet mall will look like.

Although some residents have opposed the project due to traffic concerns and the impact it will have on the county’s landscape, Eaton believes it will be an asset to the area.

“We’re talking about at least 1,000 new jobs, and that’s not counting seasonal jobs. We’re also talking about what it’s going to mean in terms of other growth, like new restaurants and potential hotels coming in”, Eaton says.

You can already see twin spires that look like Churchill Downs. Eaton says another will soon be added, and the outlet mall is 90 percent full with tenants.

He says in a matter of months, stores will begin moving in.

“I know they have to have so many pieces open by the first of April so the individual stores can come in and start doing their personal renovations for their stores,” says David Eaton.

According to the Shelby County Tourism and Visitors Bureau, confirmed retailers for the outlet mall include the following: Asics, Banana Republic, Bose, Brooks Brothers, Carters, Chicken Now, Chico’s, China Max, Coach, Crocs, Dress Barn, Easy Spirit, Famous Footwear, Fossil, Fox, Fragrance Outlet, Gap, Gold Toe, Guess, Gymboree, Haggar, J. Crew, Johnston & Murphy, Jones NY, Jos. A Bank, Journeys, Justice, Kitchen Collection, Lane Bryant, Levi’s, Lid’s, Lids Locker Room, Little Italy, Love Culture, Michael Kors, Nike, Nine West, Old Navy, OshKosh B Gosh, Rack Room Shoes, Saks Fifth Avenue, Skechers, Sunglass Warehouse, Tommy Hilfiger, Under Armour, White House Black Market, Wilsons Leather, Yankee Candle, Zumiez.

Fall break for Shelby County School is over 2013–Learning to Serve and Lead

Well Fall Break has come and gone.  Shelby County Schools allows for one week break during October.

As I sit in Girl Scouts listening to what every young lady did over fall break it amazes me the opportunity our children have that most our age did not.

Providing opportunity for leadership is extremely important in Scouting.  Boy Scouting and Girl Scouting both teach leadership for our young children.  Leadership isn’t given…it is earned.  Providing the skills to help others and serve is the beginning to leadership.

As a Cub Scout leader for 8 years now, I know the importance of teaching our young men how to help others.  Serving others, or helping others at all times, is the cornerstone for leadership.  Without learning to work together and communicate leadership is a very difficult challenge.

Leadership is service. There are no exceptions. -Dave Ramsey

I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people.

The construction of the Outlet store in Simpsonville Ky have created another road change for Veechdale road.  This is the 3rd change in many years of the road name and location.

Residents who live on Veechdale road have a new route to take.  The outlet design has cut off the road access so a new connector is open.

18 Ways to Prep Your Home’s Exterior for the Spring Market

18 Ways to Prep Your Home’s Exterior for the Spring Market.

Spring is in the air in some parts of Canada and the U.S., although it hasn’t quite reached my little corner of the world yet. This is the time of year when thoughts turn to spring cleaning; whether or not you’re selling your home. Of course, if you are listing anytime soon, you’ll want to be even more meticulous.

The busy spring market will be upon us before you know it, so here are some tips for getting the exterior of your home shipshape:

1. Remove glass from light fixtures and take out any little critters that may have found a home over the winter.  Be sure to use glass cleaner on the panes before replacing them in your fixtures.

2. Clean your mailbox.  If it hasn’t weathered well over the winter, it’s probably time to replace it.

3. Clean and polish, if necessary, your front door’s hardware. Replace it as well if necessary.

4. Check your house numbers.  Are they still in good shape and visible from the street?  If not, replace them.

5. Wash down your front door and garage door.  If you find that the previous summer’s sun has faded the paint, consider repainting.  (Your garage door should be painted a color that blends in with the brick or vinyl siding on your home.) Before painting, check with the paint manufacturer to see what the optimal outdoor temperature should be. You don’t want to paint when it’s still too cold outside.

6. Wash the windows.  If this isn’t your strong suit, hire a professional.

7. Hose down the porch and driveway to remove any excess salt left over from de-icing.

8. Sweep the porch, driveway and patio to get rid of any rogue leaves etc. left over from the fall.

9. Check your porch, driveway, and patio for any cracking or lifting of patio stones that may have taken place during a deep freeze.

10. Check your roof to make sure no shingles are missing or were damaged during the winter.

11. Remove debris from your gutters and drain spouts.

12. Rake the lawn.  However, before doing that it’s very important to check with your local garden center first to be sure it’s not too early.  If raked too soon before the ground thoroughly dries, you could potentially damage your lawn.

13. Remove winter displays from your urns.  For a burst of color, plant spring flowers as soon as weather permits.

14. Tidy up your gardens in preparation for planting season.

15. Organize the garage. Put away shovels, snow blowers, toboggans, and any other items that made their way into your garage over the winter.

16. If you don’t use your barbeque year round, it’s time to bring it out.  If it’s a built-in unit that will be staying with the house, be sure to clean the grills and wash down the lid.  If you have a cover for it, replace it if it’s worn.

17. Remove the cover from your swimming pool and clean your pool as soon as your pool service company advises that it’s OK to do so.

18. Bring out your patio furniture and set it up.  Although it may be too cold to sit outside just yet, you want potential buyers to see your outdoor living space’s potential.

These are some suggestions to get your started.  What else am I missing?  Feel free to add to the list!
